Latest Updates / Re: Pyrolife web site back again?

Astroboy  and Falcon,  are either of you still actually "active" in the hobby?  And at what level?

Sadly,  whilst I do still follow a couple of the overseas forums from time to time, and would like to be more active,  it's really only NYE when I am brave enough these days to do anything worthwhile other than fire off an occasional  test shell or three during the year, a long way up the beach away from any houses.  So, these  days I plan and build for a once a year event (NYE) where I consider that "everyone" expects to hear fireworks  -  the Plod have more on their plate at midnight than someone complaining about hearing/seeing some fireworks, and we get "out o'er there" quick smartish.

Sad that it has come to this. Of course it's all due to the threat of potential Islamic terrorist attacks that has turned the tide against anyone these days peacefully and safe fully pursuing pyrotechnics as an artistic hobby. Anyone that has any knowledge, understanding, or heaven forbid experience in explosives........,  is dangerous and needs to be apprehended, prosecuted and  thrown in jail.

Are we the only three responsible Pyro people left in AUS,  other than the commercial operators who buy everything from China, probably wouldn't have a clue what is in a shell design and what makes it do what it does?

The weather was perfect. The tide was perfect for a beach display. I had a venue/people who love "personal" fireworks on NYE at their party.  And I had many shells "in stock"  from a build I did with Leedrill and Jessoman a couple of years ago.  Most already were fitted with their lift charges and my own design E Matches.  Took no more than day to get everything completed and checked out.

Unfortunately the quality of the video is crap. This is from one of the party goers on their mobile phone.  I had intended to organise something better myself but it never eventuated.  Shame really because it actually looked a huge amount better than in this video which is all fuzzy and washed out.  The colours and effects were really good I thought.  Probably one of my best efforts ever.  Seems the party goers enjoyed it - that's always good.

Used 3, 4 and 5 inch shells. All worked perfectly including my recently reworked Chinese wireless firing system which had given me problems last year with signal strength,  but now reckon I've probably got 1 Km range after I ripped out their crappy Chinese RF transmitter/receiver modules and installed a proper AUS made commercial quality RF comms system.

Ive been looking at the last backup for the site for a while, got bored this morning so thought I would put it back up for a while.
I will do a bit of work to make sure everything is functional but If you notice something not working let me know and I will try and get it sorted.

Wow,   Is this site back up and running?  I thought I must be the only Pyro enthusiast still "operating" in Aus. Maybe I am!  We had a good show this NYE with a number of 3, 4 and 5 inch shells.   Sadly the previous two years I was not able to do NYE events due to bad weather.

The camera is muffling it a little but this lot seem to go more smaller cracks, normally they are as you describe and I don't let them off in the back yard, Ill try a couple more tomorrow and see what thy're like when the primes completely dry, I bound the prime with metho which can have a bit of moisture in there and take a day or so.
I've read a couple of articles where they recommend you use a different solvent to apply the prime, possibly so the prime chems don't leach into the star comp.
I used a different Mag/Al this time and screwed the comp a little which could have made a bit of difference. Might do a do over in a week or so and see if it makes any difference.
Also I didn't re dry the Bis/Ant mix and wondering if it may have a little moisture in there.

Great tutorial Astro.
Also thanks for putting up your prime formula, I haven't been too sure on what to prime mine with, so I might give that a go.

Another thing; does you camera muffle the sound of the eggs?
Its just that for me they don't seem to be that loud on the video. Mine are 6mm cubes and sound like gunshots when they go off. So I have to be careful when I'm testing them so I don't annoy any neighbors!

Suppliers / Re: Any one local make + sell rocket tooling?
« Last post by Falcon on March 12, 2014, 10:45:33 PM »
I recommend Wolter too, they are awesome tools!

To save on post you can organise between Wolter and Hobby horse to get your 1lb tubes too, in the same box. It will cost a fair bit for postage but in the long run it is worth it. I generally reduce the costings down to what it cost per tube, then it seems much more reasonable.
